SHILLONG, OCT 10: Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief Ardent Basaiawmoit on Saturday said the people of Meghalaya will reject the BJP in the general elections, reacting to the recent joining of 8 UDP MLAs to the BJP.
“I think it is not only BJP, any party can come through the backdoor if they are willing to spend and if they are willing to invest. As you are aware, the BJP is so desperate to get a government in Meghalaya for reasons best known to them, but I am sure that people of Meghalaya will still reject BJP in the general election,” Basaiawmoit said.
Asked if he sees scope for BJP’s expansion in the state, he said, “We don’t see any scope for the expansion of BJP as far as Meghalaya is concerned.”
On whether BJP will concede to demands made by 8 MLAs, he added, “I am made to believe that the BJP may concede to a few demands which will not affect them, but I don’t see the BJP considering those demands which will have an adverse effect on the BJP as a party.”
