Shillong, October 10: Meghalaya’s locally sourced agricultural produce took centre stage at the recently concluded Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet 2.0, with MKC showcasing its Lakadong Turmeric Ginger Tea, a blend of Lakadong turmeric, ginger and tea developed for the consumer market.
Marketed in convenient tea bags, the product was launched on September 18, 2026, by Mebanker Cajee, proprietor of MKC. The meet provided an opportunity to introduce the product to potential buyers and gather feedback on its packaging and prospects in wider markets, including exports.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, Cajee said the product was developed after considerable research into combining Lakadong turmeric with ginger and tea. He described the blend as a distinctive offering from Meghalaya that brings together locally sourced ingredients in a convenient format.
According to Cajee, the raw materials used in the product are sourced from farmers in Meghalaya, linking local agricultural production with value addition and the development of finished consumer goods.
He said the product had received a generally positive response from local consumers since its launch. Feedback from buyers at the meet also highlighted the need to improve the packaging to make the product more appealing to international markets.
Cajee said the discussions offered useful insights into areas that MKC could improve as it explores opportunities to expand the product’s reach. The feedback pointed to potential export opportunities, subject to improvements in presentation and packaging.
Apart from its commercial objectives, the product also incorporates contributions towards social and environmental causes. Cajee said ₹2 from every packet sold goes towards the health and education of underprivileged children, while ₹1 is allocated towards environmental causes.
The initiative aims to link consumer purchases with support for community welfare and environmental protection. However, details regarding the organisations receiving the contributions and the specific activities funded were not disclosed.
The showcasing of Lakadong Turmeric Ginger Tea at the meet highlighted an effort to transform Meghalaya’s agricultural resources into value-added products, while exploring opportunities to connect local producers with wider domestic and international markets.
