SHILLONG, OCT 12: Police are mobilizing additional forces from across the state to ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations in the city, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said on Monday.
Assuring foolproof security, Syiem said, “We have asked for additional police deployment and adequate police deployment and security will be ensured in every place.”
He said the final deployment chart is still under preparation.”As of now, it has not been finalized how much force will be required. We are still working on it, we still have some time. Additional force is being asked and we will review the situation from time to time,” he said.
The SP clarified that apart from CRPF personnel already deployed, only state forces are being requisitioned at this stage.
On the groundwork, he said sector officers have already held consultations with puja committees and other stakeholders to streamline arrangements for smooth festivities.
Advisories have been issued for mandatory CCTV installation at pandals, fire safety compliance and crowd management, particularly to address issues of missing children and to avert accidents.
“Puja committees have been exhorted to deploy volunteers, who will be supported by Shillong Traffic Police at major puja pandals and strategic points,” Syiem said.
