Shillong, October 13: The Meghalaya Unified Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has urged the State Government to include teachers under the Structured Pay Framework (SPF) in the upcoming Sixth Pay Commission, along with demands for formal notification of their service conditions and improved welfare benefits.

A delegation of MUTA met Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma at his official residence in Shillong on Tuesday to discuss the concerns affecting SPF teachers.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, MUTA chairman Aristotle C. Rymbai said the inclusion of SPF teachers in the Sixth Pay Commission was one of the key demands raised by the association.

He said the Chief Minister had assured the delegation that an early meeting would be convened to discuss the matter further.

However, no final decision on including SPF teachers in the Sixth Pay Commission was announced following the meeting.

The association also urged the government to formally notify the service conditions governing SPF teachers and improve their welfare benefits. These demands formed part of its broader representation seeking clarity on service-related matters and better provisions for teachers working under the framework.

Rymbai said MUTA would convene a general meeting shortly to discuss the outcome of the interaction with the Chief Minister and brief its members on the discussions and the assurance received.

Further discussions are expected to determine the government’s response to the association’s demands.
