Shillong, October 16: Nongkseh produced a determined performance to defeat Shillong Premier League champions Mawlai 1-0 in the first semifinal of the SSA Super Cup 2026 at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on Friday.

Banraplang Pyngrope scored the decisive goal in the 47th minute to send Nongkseh into the final, while Mawlai suffered their first defeat of the 2026 season after remaining unbeaten in their campaign to win the Shillong Premier League title.

Nongkseh will face the winner of Saturday’s second semifinal between Shillong Lajong and Meghalaya Police, scheduled for 5 pm.

The first half witnessed an entertaining contest, with both sides creating scoring opportunities. Mawlai threatened early, but Nongkseh goalkeeper Daraphun Talang denied their fourth-minute attempt from a corner.

At the other end, Chesterpaul Lyngdoh attempted a spectacular bicycle kick, forcing Mawlai goalkeeper Lambhamiki Lamare to gather the ball at the second attempt. Nongkseh continued to press and came close to scoring when Dawanchwa Challam struck the upright.

The breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart. Hardy Cliff Nongbri delivered a free-kick into the penalty area, and after the ball bounced around in the box, Banraplang headed it home to give Nongkseh the lead.

Mawlai responded by launching sustained attacks in search of an equaliser, but Nongkseh defended resolutely, with almost their entire outfield contingent dropping back to protect the advantage.

Mawlai created several promising moves, but their finishing let them down. Jestibor Mawlong came closest in the 78th minute after weaving past several defenders and entering the box, only to send his effort high over the crossbar.

Basuklang Bina also threatened twice during seven minutes of stoppage time. His first attempt was saved by Daraphun, while his second sailed over the bar.

Nongkseh held firm until the final whistle to secure a memorable victory and book their place in the final. The performance marked a significant improvement from their playoff encounter against Sawmer, which they won 4-2.

Banraplang was named the T7 Player of the Match for his winning goal and defensive contribution. He received the award from former SSA vice-president and retired Meghalaya Chief Secretary Donald P. Wahlang.
