Mukul terms Nongkhlaw destination for promoting culture tourism

Shillong Nov 4: Meghalaya chief minister, Mukul Sangma said that Nongkhlaw with its historical significance has a huge potential of positioning itself as a unique exclusive destination for promoting culture tourism.

The chief minister complimented this while addressing a gathering at Nongkhlaw where he laid the foundation stone for setting up of “Eco Resort” and participated at the ” Krem Tirot Festival 2017″ held at Madan Bir, Nongkhlaw in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism Kennedy C. Khyriem, Mairang MLA Metbah Lyngdoh, and Syiem of Hima Nongklaw, Phrestar Manik Syiemlieh.

The chief minister said, tourism as a sector has to be driven by all stakeholders and the state government has to play the role of a facilitator.

He also informed that a project called “Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Centre” at Nongkhlaw has already been sanctioned by the government, and tendering process and work allotment is yet to be done.

“Opportunity for all through sustainable tourism is the agenda of government. Our traditional way of life and vibrant culture are strengths which can add value to various products in tourism sector. We are looking forward to see that Nongkhlaw acts as a catalyst in promoting Meghalaya as one of the most sought destinations,” he said.

The Syiem of Hima Nongklaw also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister on the occasion.
