Shillong Jan 17: A man who sexually assaulted a minor girl was convicted for a period of three years rigorous imprisonment.

The accused, Wanmi Lyngdoh of Muthlong village, West Jaintia Hills district was convicted for sexual assualt under Section 8 POCSO Act, 2012 by the Special Judge (POCSO), Jowai in a judgment delivered on January 15.

A fine of Rs. 1,000 was imposed and in default of payment of the fine, the convict will further undergo simple imprisonment of one month.

On May 22, 2015, an FIR was filed at Jowai PS by the mother of an 11-year old girl residing in West Jaintia Hills district that her daughter was raped the previous day by Wanmi Lyngdoh (20).

The case (Jowai PS Case No. 98(5)15) was registered under section 4 POCSO Act 2012.

The case was investigated by the O/C Women PS West Jaintia Hills Sun Inspector, O. Tyngkan (now Inspector) and submitted her chargesheet on August 3, 2015.
