Shillong, Apr 19: Journalists in Meghalaya organized a silent march here on Thursday in protest against petrol bomb attack at the residence of journalist, Patricia Mukhim.
Mukhim who is an editor of The Shillong Times also joined the march that started from Shillong Press Club premises at Lower Lachumier here.
Journalists belonging to different houses both print and electronic participated in the march to express solidarity and to condemn the incident.
Placards and banners were taken out during the march condemning the incident with a call to the law enforcing agencies to nab those responsible for the attack and punish according to the law. The march passed through Barik Point, Shillong Civil Hospital point, Secretariat, Raj Bhavan and culminated at the Shillong Press Club.
On April 17, miscreants threw a petrol bomb at the house of the editor at around 8.35 pm.
So far no one has been arrested and police are investigating the case.
This was not the first time as the past, attacks on journalists and newspapers office had also taken place.
It may be mentioned that on February 11, 2010, a petrol bomb was also hurled by miscreants at the office U Nongsaiñ Hima, a well known Khasi daily, but police have not been able to arrest persons responsible for the crime.
