Shillong, Apr 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured teachers of deficit schools in the state that the issue related to implementation of pay revision would be taken up in the Cabinet within 10 days.

This assurance after a joint delegation of the Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) met the chief minister here on Friday and demanded immediate implementation of revised salary.

KJDSTA President ED Nongsiang said that the delegation was happy with the assurance given by the chief minister, and termed the meeting as “forthcoming and straight forward.”

Nongsiang said that the chief minister has assured to take up and discuss the pay revision for deficit teachers in the Cabinet within 10 days.

During the meeting, the teachers also urged the government to also extend pension benefits to them as per the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission besides introduction of the Assured Carrier Progressive Scheme (ACPS) and medical reimbursement.

The implementation of revised salary would benefit around 6,686 deficit school teachers right from primary to higher secondary level in the state.

On the state education policy and service rules, the KJDSTA president said that the chief minister said that within two months time, the government would be able to make public the draft education policy while the draft service rules has been circulated to teachers for their views and suggestions.

The teachers also pointed out numerous errors in school textbooks published by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE), and asked the government to intervene and take corrective measures.

“The chief minister has informed that soon the board will have a full fledged chairman and the government would also review the matter related to textbooks,” Nongsiang said.

On the issue of provincialisation of service of deficit school teachers, Nongsiang said that the chief minister said that another round of discussion on the issue will be again held with the delegation.
