Shillong, May 06: The All India Congress Committee has approved the name of former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s daughter, Miani Dalbot Shira as the candidate for the bye election to Ampati Assembly constituency slated for May 28.
The BJP has decided to again field Bakul Hajong, the candidate who lost to Mukul in the February 27 Assembly elections.
The NPP is fielding Clement Momin as its candidate.
A statement issued from New Delhi by AICC general secretary, Mukul Wasnik confirmed that the name of Miani Dalbot Shira has been approved by Congress president, Rahul Gandhi as the party candidate for the ensuing bye election to the Ampati Assembly constituency.
The bye election has to be held to elect a new MLA from Ampati after Mukul resigned on March 14 as the MLA of the constituency since he was also elected as the MLA of Songsak constituency.
The BJP has also decided to field Bakul Hajong as the candidate and his candidature was confirmed by BJP state president, Shibun Lyngdoh.
“We have already decided to once again field Hajong as the candidate in the upcoming bye election,†Lyngdoh said.
