Shillong, May 14: All the three candidates remained in the fray for the bye election to Ampati Assembly constituency slated for May 28.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations by any the candidates was fixed on Monday, but none of them pull out of the fray.
“There was no withdrawal of nomination papers by any candidate which confirmed that all three of them are in the fray,†Chief Electoral Officer, F.R. Kharkongkor said here on Monday.
The three candidates who have filed their nomination papers for the bye election include, Congress nominee, Miani Dalbot Shira who is also the eldest daughter of former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition in the tenth Meghalaya Assembly, Dr Mukul Sangma,, the ruling National People’s Party candidate, Clement G. Momin, and Independent nominee, Subhankar Koch.
A total of 28,699 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise which include 14,317 male and 14,382 female voters.
Out of 28,699 voters, 28,571 are general electors (14,190 male and 14381 female) and 127 service electors (127 male, and 1 female).
Voting will take place on May 28, and counting of votes on May 31.
The bypoll was necessitated after Dr Mukul who won both Ampati and Songsak seats in the February-27 Assembly elections, gave up Ampati, and decided to remain as the MLA of Songsak in East Garo Hills district.
