Shillong, May 14: A task force that studies the draft education policy was asked to complete the process of fine-tuning the policy within 45 days, even as no views and suggestions were given to further improve the draft education policy.

The 21-member task force was constituted by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government and notified on March 21 this year. Educationists along with officials from the education department are part and parcel of the task force which has been tasked to study the draft education policy and come out with the final policy.

Education minister, Lahkmen Rymbui who is the chairman of the task force, chaired the first meeting of the task force in the presence of the chief minister in the conference hall, main secretariat here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the chief minister asked the task force to complete the process of fine tuning the draft policy within 45 days so that the final policy could be placed before the state Cabinet for approval.

Rymbui also appreciated members of the task force for sharing their valuable suggestions.

“Each member of the task force has some unique ideas that can really help the government in fine-tuning the draft policy,” he said, adding that task force is likely to meet again within one week.

Rymbui said that the government wanted to implement this policy and address issues related to education right from primary to higher level.

The Education Minister also expressed surprise since no one from the stakeholders has submitted views and suggestions to further improve the draft education policy.

“We have fixed April 30 as last date for receiving views and suggestions but nobody has sent one suggestion so far,” he said.

Rymbui said that in another one week, the government was open to views and suggestions, before finalizing it.

The minister also said that it would not be good if somebody would criticize the policy later when it is implemented in the state.
