Shillong, June 20: The Shillong Traffic police has detected as many as 24 cases of vehicles using modified exhaust pipes during its ongoing checking in and around the city.

East Khasi Hills SP, Davis NR Marak said the traffic police have been compelled to conduct checking starting from June 18, in view of the use of modified exhaust pipes which has annoyed passerby in the city.

Around 24 cases of modified exhaust pipes were detected on the first day mostly used by youngsters, he said.

The SP said that it has been found that many vehicle users are still using their modified exhaust pipes inspite of advisory being issued that violators will be booked under section 102 of Meghalaya Police Act and will impose a fine of Rs 5,000.

The checking will not be only for two wheelers but for all types of vehicles and the SP has urged all vehicle users to remove their modified exhaust pipes.
