Shillong, Nov 24: The statement of Amita Sangma, who was brutally attacked along with Agnes Kharshiing allegedly by coal mafias in East Jaiñtia Hills district on November 8, was recorded by an Additional District Magistrate (ADM) who is heading a magisterial probe into the incident.
Sources said that S.S. Syiemlieh, an Additional District Magistrate of East Jaiñtia Hills visited NEIGRIHMS on Saturday to record the statement of Kharshiing who is the president of CSWO as well as the statement of Sangma as part of the inquiry.
The ADM however could record only the statement of Sangma, but not the statement of Kharshiing, who is still in serious condition, due to head injuries in injuries in other parts of the body.
Sources said that doctors who are treating Kharshiing told the ADM Kharshiing is not yet fit, and not in a position to give her statement.
A magisterial inquiry was ordered by the East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner following the attack on Kharshiing and Sangma at Tuber Sohshrieh in the district to ascertain facts and circumstances that led to the assault of the two women.
Police have arrested four persons so far including a lady in connection with the assault case, in which the attackers attempted to kill Kharshiing and Sangma, who had gone to East Jaiñtia Hills district to lodge a complaint against illegal mining and transportation of coal in the district despite the ban by the NGT.
