Shillong, June 20: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge Meghalaya, Luizinho Faleiro on Thursday said the Congress would be further strengthened in the state and thanked the people of Meghalaya for reposing faith in the party.
Faleiro held a meeting with functionaries of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at the Congress Bhavan and he will also meet leaders and workers from the district and block level on Friday.
“We will discuss how to consolidate and strengthen the party organization and prepare a road map and action plan,†Faleiro told reporters here.
The Congress national general secretary also informed that the purpose of his visit was to congratulate the party and thank the people of Meghalaya for supporting the party in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls.
Sitting Congress MP, Vincent H Pala retained the Shillong parliamentary seat while former Union Minister Agatha K Sangma of the NPP defeated Congress candidate and former chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma from Tura Lok Sabha seat.
“We gave a good fight in Tura also and our vote shares have increased in Meghalaya and other states in the North East too. That is why I am here to thank the people for supporting the party,†he said.
On allegations that some of Congress MLAs may leave the party, the AICC leader said that he has full confidence on the party MLAs and “I did not see any evil as of now.â€
