Amit Shah to meet Manipur CM on Dec 3 on Citizenship Bill

Imphal, Dec 2:  Union Home Minister Amit Shah has invited Manipur People against Citizenship Bill (MANPAC) and different political parties for consultation regarding Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2019, Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh said on Monday.

Singh said the Home Minister would meet the delegates from the State on December 3 at 10:30 pm in New Delhi.

On Saturday,Shah held consultation with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu , Leaders of the different political parties, North East Student’s Organisation and various stakeholders from the region on the contentious Bill.

Both Sangma and Khandu has opposed the Bill.

Singh said he discussed the issue of non invitation of Manipur organisations to discuss the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Mass sit in protest was organised here on Monday today against the proposal to pass the Bill during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament

MANPAC convenor Dilipkumar said people of Manipur are against the Citizenship Amendment Bill and asked the Chief Minister to mount pressure on the centre to exclude the north east from purview of Bill.

He said Manipur organisations were not invited for talks by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and CM Biren was briefed about the matter on Sunday following which the Home Ministry was intimated about the matter.

Manipur is facing unrest since a long time after the BJP led government decided to pass CAB .
