Amita meets Agnes

Shillong Dec 22: Amita Sangma on Saturday visited social activist, Agnes Kharshiing, the first time both met together after they were discharged from the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

Agnes who is out of danger now, was brutally attacked along with her aide, Amita at Sohshrieh in East Jaiñtia Hills district on November 8.

Agnes and Amita went to Lad Rymbai to seek police assistance in inspecting coal mining areas as well as trucks that were ferrying coal illegally despite the ban on coal mining and transportation by the NGT. On the way, they took pictures of coal-laden trucks and areas where coal was dumped.

Agnes is staying in her brother’s house, Francis Kharshiing.

Agnes was discharged from NEIGRIHMS on December 10, and Amita was discharged on November 30.

The State government has instituted an independent inquiry into the attack on Agnes and Amita.
