Ampati MLA takes oath as member of tenth Meghalaya Assembly

Shillong, June 5: Newly elected MLA of Ampati, Miani D. Shira took oath as member of the tenth Meghalaya Assembly here on Tuesday.

Miani was administered the oath of office by Assembly Speaker, Dr Donkupar Roy at the Assembly Secretariat administrative block in the presence of Deputy Speaker, T.D. Shira, Congress MLAs and Assembly officials.

The Ampati MLA who is also an eldest daughter of the Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma, replaced her father who had represented Ampati for 25 years since 1993.

Mukul won from Ampati and Songsak constituency in the Assembly polls held in February 27 this year. He however resigned as MLA of Ampati and paved the way for his daughter and got elected in the bye election from Ampati on May 28.

Miani told reporters that her priority would be to develop human resource in the constituency and said that her father had done a lot for the constituency in the past 25 years.

She said that her job would be to carry forward developmental initiatives and address people’s needs especially human resource development to help the youth.
