Andhra gets human milk bank

Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Nov 2: Telangana’s first human milk bank in the public sector was inaugurated on Wednesday at the state-run Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad.

Dhaatri Mother’s Milk Bank will cater the milk to neonates who are unable to get mother’s milk.

Speaking to ANI, Superintendent Niloufer Hospital, Dr. Murali Krishna said, “the human milk bank is one of its kinds in the state, we are having a load of 200 to 300 referral babies at any time from other districts and neighbour states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka”.

“The babies who are preterm low birth weight and referred to our state run Hospital we will provide the best and possible help as much as possible. We will collect milk from the patients who are admitted in the hospital and willing to donate, the donated milk will be refrigerated and sterilised and it is purely safe to feed the new borns,” he said.

This initiative is started by Dhatri a NGO and they will have a tie up with us for four years after completion of term it will be completely Government sector.

The main concept is the human milk fed to the new born babies will be the concept of neonatal mortality and recovery of the baby increases by 50 percent.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel, inaugurated the Mother’s Milk Bank and formally launched the ‘MAA-Mothers Absolute Affection’, a flagship programme for promotion of breastfeeding. (ANI)
