Shillong, Feb 21: The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department on Friday said consumption of poultry and poultry products is safe.

A statement issued by the Director of AH & Veterinary department said, “As per notification of the Government of India dated February 10, 2020, regarding the issue of consumption of livestock and poultry product and in context to the Novel Corona (Covid-19) Virus, this is to clarify for all concerned, that poultry has not been found to be involved in transmission of Covid-19 to human so far in any report, globally.”

“Hence, consumption of poultry and poultry products may be considered safe,” the statement said while adding that general principles of hygiene however may be followed as per suggestion of WHO/OIE.
