Shillong, May 10: The bye election to the Ampati Assembly seat in Meghalaya is likely to witness a triangular contest.

One more candidate, Subhankar Koch filed his nominations as Independent on Thursday after Congress nominee, Miani Dalbot Shira and the ruling National People’s Party candidate, Clement G. Momin filed their nominations.

Thursday was the last date for filing of nominations.

Miani is the eldest daughter of former chief minister and leader of opposition in Assembly, Dr Mukul Sangma, who resigned as MLA of Ampati after he was also elected as MLA of both Ampati and Songsak in the February-27 Assembly elections.

Scrutiny of nominations will take place on Friday. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 14.

Earlier, the BJP has indicated that it would field Bakul Hajong as the candidate for the bypoll, but he did not file his nominations.

Hajong was defeated by Dr Mukul in the February-27 Assembly polls from Ampati by a huge margin.

The bye election will be held on May 28 and counting of votes on May 31.
