Shillong Oct 17: While waiting for the mortal remains of Archbishop, Dominic Jala to arrive from the United States, the Shillong Archdiocese has made elaborate arrangements for receiving the body.
According to the arrangements, once the body reached Guwahati Airport, it will be taken to St Joseph Church, Guwahati to allow faithfuls to pay their last respect to the Archbishop who had also served there as Provincial in the past years.
From Guwahati, the convoy carrying the casket will be stopped at Byrnihat, Nongpoh and Umsning Parish in Ri-Bhoi district. On reaching Mawlai Mawïong, the convey will the route via Mawlai Bypass and proceed to the Archbishop ancestral home at Mawlai Phudmuri and then to Mawlai Parish where a Holy Mass will be conducted.
From Mawlai, the mortal remains of the Archbishop will be taken to the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah and the body will be kept in the Cathedral for a day before the funeral.
Archbishop Jala will be buried in a grave close to the Cathedral not inside it. It was the wish of Jala that he should be buried in a grave inside the Cathedral.
