Shillong, Apr 11: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has urged its counterpart, the Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) to ensure that perpetrators involved in the recent brutal assault of a woman are punished as per law.
This demand came after the MSCW received a video, which had gone viral on April 9, showing a young woman brutally assaulted by public at Aolaguri.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the MSCW said that on ascertaining about the incident that occurred within the jurisdiction of Assam, the Commission had immediately informed and forwarded the video to the ASCW to take necessary prompt action and ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and booked as per the law.
It also informed that its vice-chairperson, Gamchi T. Marak also immediately rushed to the police station at Tura and Bagendoba to enquire about the case.
She also visited the residence of the victim and met the family members who were advised to file an FIR with the concerned police station.
The Commission felt that such incidents should be dealt with promptly by all concern and should not be allowed to happen anywhere in the State.
