Autumn Session of Meghalaya Assembly likely to commence from Sept 21

Shillong, Sept 6: The upcoming Autumn Session of the 10th Meghalaya Assembly is likely to begin from September 21.

Sources on Thursday said that the MDA government has recommended that the Autumn Session should begin from September 21, but the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Assembly will finalize the calendar according to the number of days proposed for the session.

A meeting of the BAC has been called on Monday (September 10). While Assembly Speaker, Donkupar Roy is the chairman of the BAC, Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Parliamentary Affairs, Prestone Tynsong are members of the committee.

“The BAC will sit and finalize the calendar for the Session,” sources said, when asked about the number of days for the Autumn Session.

The Autumn Session is the maiden session for newly elected member of the 10th Assembly from Ranikor constituency, Pius Marweiñ, who defeated veteran politician and five-time MLA, Martin M. Danggo in the bye election held on August 23.

Conrad, who took over as Chief Minister when he was the MP of Lok Sabha, was also elected as member of the10th Assembly from South Tura constituency along with Pius Marweiñ in the bye election.

The Autumn Session is also the session where the Assembly has all its 60 members after the election of Conrad and Marweiñ as members of the House.

The Autumn Session is also the second session of the 10th Meghalaya Assembly. The present House was constituted after the February-27 Assembly polls.

The maiden session of the House was the budget session that lasted for nearly a month, from March 16 to April 20 this year.
