Shillong, Jan 6: BJP national president, Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed office of the BJP in Meghalaya and asked party workers to work hard to ensure victory of the party in the upcoming elections.
Shah arrived in Shillong after addressing an election rally of the BJP at Tikrikilla in Garo Hills.
In his speech, the BJP chief said that the Mukul Sangma-led government in Meghalaya should be awarded as the most corrupt government because despite over Rs 56,000 crore sanctioned by the Centre, there has been no development in the state.
Four former MLA who joined the BJP recently – A.L. Hek from Congress, Sanbor Shullai from NCP, Justine Dkhar and Robinus Syngkon both Independents attended the function in the presence of Union minister of state for tourism who is the BJP’s election in-charge in Meghalaya, K.J Alphons, Assam minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP spokesperson, Nalin Kohli, state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh and other party leaders and workers.
Shah said, the response from the crowd, and anger of public against the government led by chief minister, Mukul Sangma has convinced him that the next government in Meghalaya would be formed by the BJP.
He said that if there is a competition, the Mukul Sangma-led government would certainly be vying for the top spot as the most corrupt government.
He also asked BJP workers to analyze on healthcare, infrastructure, education, tourism facilities, jobs among the youth, and lack of opportunities because the Meghalaya government has failed on every front and work on the mission of throwing out the present Congress-led government.
He said that Meghalaya should become a model state instead of being most corrupted state.
He also said that under the 13th Finance Commission, the allocation of fund for Meghalaya was Rs 5,817 crore, but under now it increased to Rs 25,413 crore under the 14th Finance Commission.
Shah however alleged that there was no development despite huge funds given by the Centre to Meghalaya.
Shah also said that under various schemes which include clean India (Rs 4 crore), urban transportation (Rs 46 crore), Rs 100 crore for Umiam Lake, Agia-Mendipathar -Tura road (Rs 9000 crore), Jowai-Nartiang-Khanduli road (Rs 6000 crore), the total fund for Meghalaya for developmental projects came to Rs 31,211 crore.
Along with Rs 25,413 crore, Meghalaya received a total of Rs 56,624 crore, but there has been no development in the state.
“Where has the money gone?†he asked while telling BJP workers to enlighten the people about the money given by the Centre and the failure of the state govenrment.
The BJP chief further said that the Mukul Sangma-led government should be awarded as the most corrupt government because despite over Rs 56,000 crore sanctioned by the Centre, yet no development could be seen in the state.
