Shillong, May 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Mahila Morcha president, Vijaya Rahatkar on Monday slammed the Mukul Sangma-led government for its failure to provide security to women and children.
Rahatkar expressed concern over rise of crimes against women and children while addressing a meeting of the Meghalaya Mahila Morcha during her first visit to Shillong.

She said that the present state government led by the Congress has turned a blind eye by failing to ensure safety of women and children.
She added that perpetrators continue to commit such crimes on women and children as there is absolutely no fear for the law, and said it is time for the state government to further strengthen the state police organisation.
Rahatkar further stressed the need for setting up of a Court to exclusively deal with POCSO related cases in view of the fact that over 400 such cases are pending in various courts.
Meanwhile, the BJP Mahila Morcha chief also expressed confident that the BJP will be elected to power in Meghalaya in the upcoming Assembly election and adding that the party will ensure forming of a corruption-free government.
To a question, she said that the party would also ensure that enough women candidates are fielded in the forthcoming election next year.
According to her, women can also play an important role in nation building apart from being a homemaker.
She also announced that the party would go for house-to-house campaign soon in the state to create awareness about various policies and schemes introduced and implemented by the BJP-led NDA government.
