BJP Mahila president quits, will support UDP for bye election to Ranikor constituency

Shillong, July 30: BJP Mahila Morcha president and former candidate of the party from Ranikor Assembly seat, Pelcy Snaitang has resigned from the party on Monday.

She claimed that she has lost confident in the leadership of the state president, Shibun Lyngdoh.

In her resignation letter submitted to the BJP state president on Monday, Snaitang said, “I tender my resignation from the post and from the party as myself and my supporters have lost confidence in the leadership of Shibun Lyngdoh as the state president.”

Snaitang had unsuccessfully contested from Ranikor constituency in the February 27 Assembly polls this year as BJP candidate

Meanwhile, a statement issued by UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh stated that Snaitang along with a host of BJP leaders from Ranikor constituency met UDP Vice President, Allantry Franklin Dkhar on Monday to inform him of their resignation from BJP which paved the way for clear support to the UDP in Ranikor.

“They formally extended their whole hearted support to the party,” Mawthoh said.

The UDP is fielding its earlier candidate, Pius Marweiñ for the bye election to Ranikor Assembly constituency slated for August 23.
