BJP will not contest Ranikor bypoll, will support any MDA partner

Shillong, Aug 2: The BJP has decided not to put up candidate for the bye election to Ranikor Assembly constituency and will support one of the candidates from among the MDA partners.

Meghalaya BJP spokesperson, Basu Chakrabortysaid that the meeting of the Ranikor BJP Mandal held at Nongiri Village, South West Khasi Hills district on August 1 was attended by BJP State President, Shibun Lyngdoh along other party officials.

The BJP State President highlighted about the bye-election and placed before the meeting to decide on contesting the Ranikor constituency bye-election.

“After detailed discussions, all members including the officials, in one voice expressed that they will not field party candidate for the bye-election. The meeting unanimously decided to support any candidate of the MDA partners,” he said.

The BJP is one of the partners of the MDA government led by the NPP. The other partners include the UDP, PDF, HSPDP and others.

The NPP is fielding former Congress MLA, Martin M. Danggo as its candidate, while the UDP is fielding Pius Marweiñ as the candidate, and the PDF decided to field former Mawynram MLA, P.N Syiem as its candidate.

The bye elections to Ranikor and South Tura constituency will be held on August 23, and counting of votes on August 27.
