Shillong, Aug 19, 2025: Panic struck Umpling Gate 1 on Tuesday night after a blast occurred in a rented private residence near the BSF camp, leaving three people injured and causing structural damage to the property.
The incident took place at around 10:10 PM in the rented house of Shri Shubam Ch. Momin. Police said the explosion damaged the kitchen and bedroom walls of Momin’s portion, while the adjoining room of BSF personnel Sandeep Kumar also sustained damage to its inner partition wall.
Injured Identified
Shubam Ch. Momin – sustained serious burn injuries; shifted to Guwahati for advanced treatment.
Sandeep Kumar (30) – suffered burn injuries; undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong.
Satyajit Paul (30) – sustained minor injuries.
Police teams, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad, immediately rushed to the scene to assess the situation. Following inspection, authorities confirmed that the blast was caused by an aerosol explosion triggered by leakage from a domestic LPG cylinder, ruling out any foul play.
In the wake of the incident, officials have urged residents to exercise greater caution while handling LPG cylinders and inflammable household appliances to prevent similar mishaps.
