Blueprint for hosting national games is ready: Meghalaya CM

Shillong, Aug 2: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that a blueprint for hosting the National Games-2022 in the state is ready and all proposals which include construction of the main stadium have reached the Union Cabinet for giving its nod.

“The blueprint is ready, proposals have already been sent to government of India and sites have been finalized where land was also taken over,” Sangma told reporters on the sidelines of a function on Friday.

Earlier, the Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) doubted if the state can host the upcoming national games in 2022 since there was no blueprint on the preparations for hosting the games.

The Chief Minister informed that there are two proposals which include the main stadium where the inaugural ceremony and main games will be held.

“The proposals have reached the Union Cabinet. I hope the Central government will clear them may be in the next sitting. Things are moving in a good pace,” he said.

The Chief Minister also expressed confidence that the government will be able to host the national games in 2022.

Stating that a lot of planning has been done in making sure that ground works are laid, Sangma said, “We cannot start construction as we wish because planning is very crucial to ensure this game is successful.”

The Chief Minister also said that the PAC members may not know all the details and appreciated their concerns. “But I can assure the PAC, other legislators as well as the people of the state that we are on track, things are moving, and we are hosting the games.”
