Boundary dispute with Assam continues for political reasons: CSWO

Shillong, Sept 19: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) on Tuesday expressed shock over the claim Langpih made by the Assam government.

“This is totally wrong and the dilly-dallying has been continuing just to keep these areas under dispute for political reasons. This is strongly opposed. It is an accepted fact that when both states of Assam and Meghalaya were ruled by the Congress, the two governments had not settled the boundary dispute which surely could have been done. It is also a fact that the Meghalaya Government has neglected providing rural development in the border areas even when fund flow was there,” CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing said.

The CSWO also said that it has been noticed that many institutes and organizations were using the map of Meghalaya which is not the real map, and urged them to get the clarification or NOC from the State government for the use of the Map of Meghalaya and not to confuse the people especially when they are to be thorough in their research in any project.

The CSWO also urged the Meghalaya government to immediately stop any delay and take up with the Assam government to resolve the dispute which should not be a problem since everything is in black and white when the areas for the new Statehood were demarcated.

“The State government should also issue a notification to all Organizations and departments, that the real map of Meghalaya should be used and displayed in their project proposals and not to mislead the people and help furthering alienation of tribal land,” Kharshiing said.
