Shillong, Aug 15: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier on Wednesday celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at the Frontier Headquarter, Umpling in Shillong and Dobasipara in Tura, the main town in Garo Hills.
The celebrations started with the hoisting of the National Flag by Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier, L Mohanti and followed by various programmes at Shillong.
Independence Day was also celebrated at various Battalion/Sectors located at Shillong and Tura.
Addressing BSF personnel at Umpling Camp, the Inspector General congratulated all recipients of “Police Medal for Meritorious Service†on the occasion of Independence Day-2018.
Mohanti also conveyed his greetings to all members of the Force and their families.
The BSF Senior Secondary School, BSF Primary School and Ankur Play School also celebrated Independence Day by organising various cultural programmes which was witnessed by the BSF School children and families of BSF Jawans.
In view of the Independence Day celebrations, tight security and vigil at the International border was maintained.
Special operations were also launched along the border to ensure incident free celebration.
The IG BSF lauded the troops guarding the border inspite of tough and treacherous terrain defying the weather conditions in remote areas of Meghalaya.
