Shillong, Dec 17: BSF troops deployed along the international border at Baghmara in South Garo Hills seized nine cattle worth Rs.1.5 lakh while attempting to smuggle out to Bangladesh on Monday.
One Bolero Pick up Van worth Rs.10 lakh was also seized.
Frequent seizures of cattle by the alerted BSF troops in areas along the international border in Meghalaya indicated a phenomenal increase in smuggling of cattle. Desperation on the part of cattle smugglers is seen, as they made very daring bids to cross over the cattle to Bangladesh, but they could not succeed.
Smugglers were trying to smuggle cattle from the unfenced area but the alerted BSF jawans foiled their attempts.
