BSNL staff launch 3-day hunger strike

Shillong, Apr 26: The joint forum of BSNL Executives Associations which comprise of SNEA, AIGETOA, BSNLOA, BEA, BASE (I), TOSA launched a 3-day hunger strike at BSNL premises from Tuesday in protest against reduction in pay scale in the cadre of JTO/JAO/SDE/AO by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) and the inordinate delay in formulation of BSNL HR Policy.

The employees under the banner of Sanchar Nigam Executive Association (SNEA) will continue their strike till April 27which will be followed by a mass casual leave on April 28.

SNEA executive member K.C Suren said main demands of the hunger strike by the employees include immediate replacement of non-standard pay scale by standard pay scale to all the executives. The issue was related to enhancement of pay scale. In 2007 pay was revised to all the executives but as per the recommendation of the second PRC had asked to revise the initial pay scale E1A and E2A to E2A and E3A respectively, instead the management and DOT have downgraded by violating the essence of basic of pay scale. Employees have been forced to agitate for their rights.

Extending 30 per cent superannuation benefit to the BSNL recruited employees. As there is no pension for the BSNL employees, so this 30 per cent superannuation benefit is must for their social security.

K.C Suren said BSNL is very much concern for all their customers as “customer is the king” and will do everything for the customer requirement.
