Shillong, July 2: The Meghalaya police on Thursday advised people not to fall into the trap of scammers who are posing as sellers on OLX.
“It is observed that a lot of people have been duped by scammers posing as sellers on OLX who have attached genuine-looking documents like ID proof belonging to the Paramilitary Forces, receipts from Courier Companies, etc., in order to make the customers fall into their trap. The scammers’ contact numbers go offline once the amount has been transferred by gullible customers,” a statement issued by the government said on Thursday.
The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills has therefore advised the general public not to fall for such scammers.
“If anyone has to deal in OLX, it is advised that before any money is to be transferred, the buyers should meet the sellers in person. Also, it is advised not to make inter-state transactions,” the statement said.
In case of any such scamming, the state police asked the general public to approach the nearest Police Station/Police Beat House/Police Out-Post or Cyber Assistance Cell (CAC), CID, Meghalaya, Shillong.
