Shillong, Apr 6: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a proposal to amend the Meghalaya Police Act to provide 10 per cent reservation for women out of total vacancies in the police department.
Informing this after the cabinet meeting here on Friday, Home Minister James K Sangma said, section 29 of the Meghalaya Police Act has to be amended to pave way for 10 per cent reservation for women in the recruitment for the post of Unarmed Branch Sub-Inspector and Unarmed Branch Constable.
According to the home minister, the decision was taken in view of the concern over the rise in crimes against women and children in the state.
“This is for the purpose of filling up existing vacancies, and the recruitment will be done as per state’s job reservation policy,†he said.
