Shillong, Apr 29: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday decided to accord financial assistance to those who do not avail State or Central schemes.
Under this assistance 1, 84, 184 families are entitled to receive Rs 700 per week per individual will cover the period from March 23 till April 14, he said.
The state government had enlisted these individuals, who comprise of petty traders, daily wage earners, and those who have lost their livelihood due to the lockdown, as they were not covered under any assistance.
Earlier, the government had given assistance to registered building and other construction workers and to MGNREGA workers besides a one-time financial assistance to those people who are stranded in different parts of the country.
The cabinet also decided to accept the recommendation from the personnel department to appoint retired IAS officer, Wilfred Khyllep, as the commissioner and secretary (law department) on contractual basis for a period of six months.
