Shillong, Aug 24: The state Cabinet has approved the names of four persons as members of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR).

Addressing media persons after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister R.C. Laloo said that the names have been approved as per recommendations made by the deputy commissioners of East Jaintia Hills, Ri Bhoi and West Garo Hills.

The members include F Nongtdu from East Jaintia Hills, Jennifer Jones Kylla from Ri Bhoi District and two others (whose names are yet to be known) from West Garo Hills District.

Last month, the cabinet had reappointed Meena Kharkongor as the chairperson of SCPCR.

Kharkongor was first appointed as SCPCR chairperson on March 11, 2014.

It may be mentioned that the SCPCR under the leadership of Kharkongor had filed FIRs against Independent legislator, Julius Dorphang for his alleged involvement in raping in a minor.

Dorphang who is supporting the Congress-led government is still in judicial custody. He was arrested by police from Guwahati in January this year.
