Shillong, Apr 6: The Meghalaya government has approved the proposal of the state education department to implement a pension scheme for teaching and non-teaching staff of deficit colleges in the state.
Senior minister, Prestone Tynsong told reporters that under the scheme, an amount around Rs 40 lakh will be incurred annually where the state government will contribute 8 per cent to the contributory provident fund (CPF), and the staff has to contribute 4 per cent in which their money can be withdrawn when they retire from service.
Tynsong said that the contribution will become effective from the day when the state government would issue a notification in this regard.
The state cabinet also approved the appointment of three teachers – one for computer science and engineering, and two for civil engineering department at Shillong Polytechnic.
The appointment is under section 3(f) of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission.
Tynsong also said that the Cabinet has also approved the proposal of the education department to constitute the Meghalaya state higher education council to promote academic excellence in the state, as well as approval to the proposal of the University of science and technology, Meghalaya to change its name to Maharashtra Institute of Technology University, Meghalaya.
