Campaign for Ampati bypoll ends, voting on Monday

Shillong May 26: Election campaign in Ampati constituency ended on Saturday at 5 pm.

Both Congress and NPP organized rallies in various places to appeal to the voters to vote for their respective candidates in the bye election slated for Monday from 7 am to 4 pm.

Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer, F.R. Kharkongor said that the campaign ended peacefully without any report of untoward incidents.

Three candidates are in the fray which includes Congress candidate, Miani Dalbot Shira, eldest daughter of Dr Mukul Sangma, the former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition in Assembly, National People’s Party nominee, Clement G. Momin, and Independent candidate, Subhankar Koch.

In the last one week, NPP and Congress leaders descended in Ampati to campaign for Miani and Clement respectively.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma along with ministers, MLAs and leaders of political parties that are part of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government also campaigned for the NPP candidate.

Former chief minister, Dr Mukul also campaigned for his daughter, Miani along with other Congress MLAs and leaders and appealed to the voters of Ampati to vote for her
