Candidates of Congress, NPP, PDF file nominations for bypolls to Ranikor, South Tura

Shillong, Aug 3: Congress candidate, Charlotte W. Momin who will take on Chief Minister, Conrad Kongkal Sangma filed her nominations on Friday for the bye election to South Tura constituency.

Congress candidate was the Principal of Tura Government Public School.

Three other candidates who are contesting the bye elections to Ranikor constituency also filed their nominations on Friday. These include former Assembly Speaker and five-time legislator, Martin Danggo, who filed his nominations as candidate of the ruling National People’s Party, Jackiush Sangma filed as Congress nominee, and former Mawsynram legislator, P.N. Syiem submitted his nominations as candidate of the People’s Democratic Front.

The Ranikor seat remained vacant after Danggo resigned as Congress MLA after the ruling NPP-led government upgraded Ranikor into a Civil Sub Division.

Conrad, who is still the Lok Sabha MP from Tura parliamentary constituency, had already filed his nominations on July 31.

Conrad has to get elected as member of the tenth Meghalaya Assembly from South Tura in order to continue as chief minister of the state.

The last date for filing of nominations in both the seats is August 6. The polling will be held on August 23, and counting of votes will take place on August 27.
