Shillong July 24: The Meghalaya High Court has granted one week to the Meghalaya government to file counter affidavit in connection with the petition filed against the holding of election to the post of chief executive member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The election to the Chief Executive Member (CEM) post in KHADC was held on July 13 where Nongkrem MDC, H.S. Shylla was elected to the post.

Shylla, an NPP member from Nongkrem, was elected to the CEM post without facing an election since all members from the opposition People’s Democratic Alliance, including the Congress members did not participate in the election on July 13.

In its order issued here on Tuesday, the Court listed August 1 for hearing.

Two members of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) had earlier filed a petition in Meghalaya High Court against the Meghalaya government, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Protem Chairperson of the Council, Teilinia S. Thangkhiew alleging that the conduct of the election to the post of chief executive member was not guided by rules.
