Shillong, June 20: The Union government has decided to open a passport office at Tura, the main town in Garo Hills.
The move of the Centre came following a request from Tura MP, Conrad K. Sangma.
In a letter addressed to Conrad on June 17, Union Minister for External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj informed that “as desired by you, we have decided to open a Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Tura in the second phase of the scheme.”
In March this year, Conrad had requested the Centre to open a passport office at Tura, and met Swaraj in New Delhi.
The Union Minister had also assured the Tura MP to look into the matter, and would inform him accordingly.
Meghalaya has one Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) office at Shillong. The office was inaugurated on November 14, 2014.
