Chandranathan appointed as full-fledged DGP of Meghalaya

Shillong, Nov 6: Ending speculations, the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government on Tuesday appointed R. Chandranathan as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state.

The 1986 batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Chandranathan held the post of Special Director General of Railways in Assam.

“On the recommendation of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)and in the interest of public service, Chandranathan is appointed as the full fledged DGP in the apex scale of pay (level 17) in the pay matrix with effect from the date of taking over charge and untill further orders,” an official notification said.

Infact, the UPSC had also recommended the the names of Director General (Prisons), R.P. Agarwal, and AK Sinha Casshyap, ADGP in-charge training and armed police.

Chandranathan replaced Swaraj Bir Singh who superannuated on July 31, 2018.

Earlier, R. Awasthi was also appointed as acting DGP and he retired from service on September 30, after which, Agarwal, the current Director General (Prisons), was appointed as acting DGP.
