Shillong, Oct 29: All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Meghalaya, Dr. A. Chellakumar, has made it clear that there is no plan to replace Vincent H. Pala as the president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
“There is no vacancy in the position,” Dr. Chellakumar asserted on Wednesday, firmly dismissing speculation about any leadership change within the state unit of the Congress.
Responding to queries about Pala’s leadership, he defended the MPCC chief, stating, “How can you say that? Because somebody left the Congress party, it doesn’t mean it is a failure of leadership.”
Dr. Chellakumar said that those who quit the Congress often do so out of personal interest, while the party remains committed to its principles. “The Congress is not here to fix a prize for some individuals,” he remarked.
Praising Pala’s dedication, he said the MPCC president is a “loyal and hardworking Congressman” who has previously served as a Union minister and continues to strengthen the party at the grassroots.
“Today, people who left the Congress are coming back, and those who have served the state in various fields are also joining the party under Vincent Pala’s leadership,” he added.
The AICC leader further stressed that the Congress prioritizes national interest above all else. “We are not here to purchase anybody like other political parties,” Dr. Chellakumar said. “By accepting the principles of the Congress party, anybody can join and work for the people.”
