Shillong, Nov 17: The four-day India International Cherry Blossom Festival, 2018 concluded on Saturday.
Forest & Environment Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui in his address at the closing ceremony of the festival at 5th Ground, Polo said that the festival has not only helped in showcasing the timely blossoming of cherry trees in the State, but also gave an opportunity for the State and the whole of North Eastern region to display its rich cultural heritage.
Stating that festivals are a way of connecting the region with other parts of the country and abroad, Rymbui said that the festival has also created an opportunity for cultural exchange between Japan and the North Eastern region.
Organized by the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (ISBD) in collaboration with the Meghalaya Forest and Environment Department and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the closing function of the festival was attended by Meghalaya Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, C.P. Marak, Regional Director, ICCR, Shillong, N. Munish Singh and representatives from the Embassy of Japan in India among others.
During the programme, the Minister handed over certificates to the winners of drawing and painting and Japanese Cosplay competitions.
