Shillong, 3rd June 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today attended a comprehensive outreach program organised by the Social Welfare Department at the NEHU Convention Hall, Shillong. The event marked the launch and distribution of multiple welfare interventions aimed at empowering women, supporting Anganwadi services, and enhancing child protection initiatives.

Key highlights of the program included:

Distribution of mobile phones to Anganwadi workers to improve data collection and service delivery.

Certificates to women in need of care and protection who have been trained in self-employment trades in Shillong and Jowai.

Distribution of IIT-designed EcoH2O water filters to Anganwadi Centres to ensure safe drinking water for children.

Cheque disbursals to new CM Care beneficiaries.

Felicitation of achievers from Children’s Homes.

Unveiling of foundation stones for a Children’s Home (Boys) in Nongstoin and for a One Stop Centre for abused women at Ganesh Das Hospital, Shillong.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the transformative role of technology in public service delivery. He cited the success of the MOTHER App in reducing the state’s maternal mortality rate by 45%, attributing it to improved monitoring and intervention. He encouraged Anganwadi workers to actively use the mobile devices provided for real-time data updates, which he said would help the government make timely decisions that “save and change children’s lives.”

He further announced an upcoming welfare initiative, CM Care+, which aims to assist patients from economically weaker sections in accessing treatment for critical illnesses.

Also present at the event were Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh and Commissioner & Secretary Pravin Bakshi, along with other senior officials.
