Shillong, Aug 28: The Syiem (chief) of Hima Sohra, Freeman Sing Syiem suspended by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) pending inquiry against him for his alleged involvement in issuing land pattas to non-tribals.
KHADC chief executive member, Hispreaching Son Shylla said on Tuesday that an inquiry headed by a senior official of the Council has been asked to submit the report on the matter within a month.
Shylla said that if the report found that he (Freeman) is not guilty of the charges, he will be re-instated as the Syiem of Hima Sohra.
The decision to set up an inquiry came after the Council received complaints that the Syiem had issued land pattas to non-indigenous residents of Majai village.
He said that the former Executive Member in-charge Elaka had taken up the matter with the previous Executive Committee led by PN Syiem as the CEM, but no action was taken that time.
