Shillong, Oct 27: A brilliant bowling performance by Kevin Christopher and Manish Sharma saw the pair take all 10 wickets between them in Jammu and Kashmir’s second innings of the U-23 Men’s Col CK Nayudu Trophy Elite Group match in Jammu on Monday.
On the second day of play, J&K were dismissed for 192, with Christopher returning outstanding figures of 6/34 in 15.5 overs, while Sharma claimed 4/63 in 34 overs.
Set a target of 293 runs for victory, Meghalaya will resume their chase on Tuesday. The visitors were earlier bowled out for 107 in their first innings, after J&K had posted 207 in their opening effort.
Pace variation and spin control proved decisive for Meghalaya in the field. Left-arm orthodox spinner Manish Sharma opened the attack, while Christopher — more recognised for his batting prowess — came in as first change and struck consistently with his controlled pace and accuracy.
J&K opener Udhay Partap top-scored with 68 off 97 balls, but once he was removed by Sharma, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to resist the disciplined Meghalaya bowling.
Earlier in the day, Meghalaya began their innings on 58/7, with Sharma adding a valuable 30 runs from the lower order — the team’s highest individual score — helping them cross the 100-run mark before conceding a 100-run first-innings lead.
With two days remaining, Meghalaya will be aiming for a strong batting response in pursuit of what would be a memorable away victory.
