CM Assures Job Security, Pay Revision for SSA Teachers

Shillong, Oct 16: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday chaired an important meeting with representatives of various teachers’ associations in Meghalaya, including the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) and the Federation of All Meghalaya Fourth Teachers Association. The meeting was also attended by Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma and senior officials of the Education Department.

Following the meeting, MSSASA President Babu Aristotle Rymbai described the discussions as “very positive and encouraging.” He said the talks mainly focused on two key issues — ensuring job security for SSA teachers and the enhancement of their pay through a structured pay scale.

“The Hon’ble Chief Minister made it very clear that the government will protect the services of all SSA teachers in the state,”
Rymbai stated. “Even though the SSA scheme is expected to end on March 31, 2026, the state government has assured that no teacher will lose their job.”

He further informed that the Chief Minister has assured the associations that a concrete plan for salary enhancement and job protection will be worked out by December 25, 2025.

Rymbai also announced that once the official minutes of the meeting are received, the association will convene a general meeting of all SSA teachers across the state to brief them on the outcome and next steps.

MSSASA Vice-President Babu Defender added that the proposed pay enhancement will be implemented in the form of a proper pay scale structure. The associations have been asked to submit detailed data to the government so that the financial implications can be examined.

So far, 3,332 schools — including 3,034 community schools and 298 private and minority-run institutions — have submitted their willingness to hand over management under the SSA pay division scheme.

“The government has shown seriousness and commitment to resolving the long-pending concerns of teachers once and for all,”
Rymbai said. “We are satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. The Chief Minister himself expressed his keenness to find a lasting solution. There will be no categorization or partiality among teachers.”

The associations expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and Education Minister for their assurance and initiative in addressing the long-standing demands of the teaching community.
